Prof Abigail Brundin, together with two colleagues, has been awarded over 2.3 million Euros by the European Research Council in order to launch a groundbreaking interdisciplinary project Domestic Devotions: The Place of Piety in the Italian Renaissance ÃÜÌÒÊÓƵ, 1400-1600. Isaac Newton Trust Grant
Dr Sanson was awarded an Isaac Newton Trust grant (2012)Ìýto carry out research onÌý'Conduct Literature for and about Women in Italy, 1500-1900: Prescribing and Describing Life'. From the sixteenth century onwards, with the diffusion of the printing press and the establishment of the vernacular as a language of culture, Italy saw a wide production of texts for and about women which aimed to define the nature of women, their role in society and their conduct in everyday life. This little-studied literary production, which is essential for the understanding of women's role in society across the centuries, is the focus of this research. Dr Francesco Lucioli was appointed to collaborate with Dr Sanson on the project between 1 October 2012 and 30 March 2013.
