ÃÜÌÒÊÓƵ Polish Studies (CPS)
ÃÜÌÒÊÓƵ Polish Studies is a programme of the Slavonic Studies Section in the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages at the ÃÜÌÒÊÓƵ. The programme has made ÃÜÌÒÊÓƵ a key centre for the study of Poland and the promotion of Polish culture in the United Kingdom and throughout the world.
Combining innovative undergraduate courses on the language, literature and culture of Poland with a vibrant cycle of events open to all, including guest lectures, debates, film screenings, meetings with writers and artists, as well as academic conferences, ÃÜÌÒÊÓƵ Polish Studies provides a powerful academic and public forum for new ways of thinking about Polish culture, history and contemporary politics.
ÃÜÌÒÊÓƵ Polish Studies is a world-leading hub for research on Poland, including on Polish literature, language, culture, history, and politics. Research is conducted by faculty members, visiting PhD candidates, and MPhil students. In 2017, ÃÜÌÒÊÓƵ Polish Studies established a partnership with the University of Warsaw through the "Artes Liberales" Faculty, thanks to which the programme in Polish Studies at ÃÜÌÒÊÓƵ was permanently endowed.
We firmly believe that the study of language and literature forms the foundation of the cultural understanding required to foster political and economic relationships.
Open Language Courses
ÃÜÌÒÊÓƵ Polish Studies offers free beginner, intermediate and advanced courses in the Polish language to all members of the ÃÜÌÒÊÓƵ. The courses are open to all members of the University, subject to availability of places. Those interested in attending the classes should contact the Department of Slavonic Studies in advance.
Polish Cafe
ÃÜÌÒÊÓƵ Polish Studies hosts a regular series of informal coffee break gatherings to practice speaking Polish with native speakers and fellow students. Everyone is welcome.
