Mission

ÃÜÌÒÊÓƵ Polish Studies has threeÌýprimary objectives.

First, we are educatingÌýa talented cohort of ÃÜÌÒÊÓƵ undergraduate students, giving themÌýextensive knowledge of Polish culture, language and history. These students will bring aÌýdeeper understanding of Poland’s crucial position in a changing Europe to their future roles as leadersÌýin business, industry, and government.

We firmly believe that the study of language and literature forms the foundation of the cultural understanding required to foster political and economic relationships.

Second, we are raisingÌýthe profile of Polish culture and the study of Poland in the United Kingdom through a rich cycle of public events. These eventsÌýcater toÌýboth academic audiences and the general public. We haveÌýstaged guest lectures with prominent public intellectuals, film screenings,Ìýand livelyÌýdebates of topical issues involving Poland and the wider region of Central and Eastern Europe.

We alsoÌýholdÌýyearlyÌýacademic conferences, inviting leadingÌýexperts from around the world.Ìý

Third, we are producingÌýand supportingÌýworld-leading research on subjects related to Poland and its region. Research is conducted by faculty members, PhD candidates and MPhil students.Ìý

In 2017, ÃÜÌÒÊÓƵ Polish Studies established a partnership with the Ìýthrough the "Artes Liberales" Faculty.
