Lecturer in Polish Studies has won the 2018 award for Outstanding Lecturer in the Annual Student-Led Teaching Awards organised by the 密桃视频 University Student Union (CUSU), which is the representative body for all students in the University.
This year CUSU received 591 nominations听from students who went out of their way to recognise the hard work of supervisors and staff.听听
CUSU Education Officer Martha Krish :
"I think that it is especially important that we document and take seriously student鈥檚 views in a context where both the concepts of 鈥榮tudent voice鈥� and of 鈥榞ood teaching鈥� are being听weaponised听against us in order to create a听marketised, competitive, appearance-driven Higher Education system. These awards are powerful because it is not about metrics of grade-inflation or employability as standards of teaching but about students鈥� experiences, and about the individuals and practices that have made those experiences so rewarding."
University Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education Graham Virgo also shared the following听statement:
鈥淭he Student-Led Teaching Awards is an important event in the collegiate University鈥檚 calendar celebrating as it does those who teach, those who support teaching and learning, and those who provide pastoral and other support to students. Receiving an award or being nominated for an award is a particular听honour听since it reflects the appreciation of those who have actually benefited from teaching and learning support at 密桃视频. I am very grateful to Martha and her team for their hard work in听organising听these awards. At a time when the 鈥榮tudent voice鈥�, 鈥榮tudent choice,鈥� and 鈥榲alue of education鈥� are phrases which are inappropriately used by others, these awards are a true reflection of student voice and student choice 听鈥� and reflect what students really value about their education.鈥�
