Project Title: 鈥淪cratch a Russian, and you鈥檒l find a Tatar:鈥 Russian conflicting identity vis-脿-vis the Orient from the middle 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century

I鈥檓 interested in Russian identity and particularly, citizenhood. I have previously worked on the Soviet deportations of the 1930s.

Research
My work currently focuses on 19th century Russian history. I look at the conquest of Central Asia and the relation between intellectuals and the Russian East as a building block for their reinvention of Russian identity.
